Not long ago, a
police officer called to a scene noticed that
the family he'd contacted had no food or
groceries. It was 3 a.m. and there were
simply no organizations that could help - with
the exception of the Chaplain's Fund. Within
minutes a chaplain was on his way to provide
assistance.
Each year,
hundreds of needy people are "discovered" by
police officers and firefighters in the course
of their duties. In our current economy,
many simply need food, groceries, gasoline, or
short-term financial assistance until
longer-term resources can be located.
The
Chaplain's Fund raises money from local
churches, businesses, and civic groups and
assists people with short-term emergency
financial needs. The Fund also helps link
them to long-term resources. It is a vital
way for our local communities to meet the needs
of truly deserving people who need a "hand up."
The
Chaplain's Fund is currently expanding into
the following cities:
- Auburn
- Des Moines
- Federal
Way
- Kent
- Renton
- Tukwila
-
Unincorporated King County
